Things have truly gone from bad to worse for Christian McCaffrey and the San Francisco 49ers.
With 11:23 left in the second quarter, McCaffrey took a toss and ran to his right, but something quickly went wrong, and he collapsed to the ground instead of taking a hit from a defensive player.
It was unclear whether that play caused the injury at the time.
Some viewers noticed CMC’s left calf appearing to explode right before he went down on the snowy turf. Some suspected that could have been the cause of his injury that took him out of the game.
Instead, it was suggested that the “popping” look was nothing more than CMC’s muscles flexing as he tried to slow himself down without putting any weight on his right side.
San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan later confirmed what some suspected, telling reporters that the star running back had suffered a PCL injury to his right knee.
After undergoing an MRI on Monday, the team officially placed him on the IR. He will miss at least four of the final five games of the regular season.
Achilles tendinitis robbed San Francisco 49ers star Christian McCaffrey of the first eight games of the 2024 NFL season, and now he will miss even more.
McCaffrey produced 202 rushing yards and 146 receiving yards in four games this year.
No Need For Christian McCaffrey To Try And Play Again, Even If The 49ers Make The Playoffs
The 49ers are 5-7 and in dead last in the NFC West. However, nobody is running away with the division, keeping them very much alive in the playoff race.
Even if the team makes it to the postseason, bringing Christian McCaffrey back into the fold might not be a good idea. Another injury could affect him for next season and beyond.
Perhaps CMC needs to be saved from himself and shut down for the remainder of this season.
