Colby Covington stole the spotlight Wednesday during the UFC Tampa pre-fight press conference, deflecting the focus from his upcoming fight against Joaquin Buckley to launch a fierce tirade against LeBron James instead.
However, what made the #6 ranked welterweight go all out against the NBA star? Did James throw any kind of shade at Covington that made the MMA fighter lash out?
Well, not exactly. Colby Covington burst out at James after a clip showing an Instagram live featuring ‘The Akron Hammer’ went viral on the internet where he jokingly talks about attending Diddy’s parties.
During the press conference, ‘Chaos’ talked about the old Instagram session where James claimed, “Ain’t no party like a Diddy party.” This video gained notoriety after Diddy recently found himself on the wrong side of the law. Back in September, the music producer was charged with multiple charges.
As a result, the 36-year-old fighter took the opportunity to question the NBA star about his connection to Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. Questioning the basketball legend, Covington questioned, “I want to ask LeBron: What does he mean by ‘there’s no party like a Diddy party?’”
He further continued, “And not only that, LeBron, how many Diddy parties have you actually been to? I’m really curious to know. Is that the reason you left social media? Because of all the backlash you were getting for going to so many Diddy parties?”
While no evidence proves that LeBron James was a part of these infamous parties, Colby Covington didn’t mince words while calling out the Lakers star. “It’s pathetic, man,” he said. As per Covington, fans believe that LeBron James is a role model.
However, the NBA star’s beliefs, such as his support for defunding the police, irk the MMA star the wrong way. So, taking things further, the Welterweight then hoped that James too would get locked up in the same cell as Diddy. Well, these are some serious words shared by the UFC fighter. But what was LeBron James’ response to it?
The NBA star’s alleged response to Colby Covington goes viral!
Colby Covington’s tirade against LeBron James stunned the sporting community. The American fighter, using the opportunity to go off on the NBA star rather than his opponent, was a move that no one saw coming. So, it was no surprise that many expected ‘The Akron Hammer’ to hit back with ‘words’ of his own. Well, he surely did, as his tweet soon went viral on the internet.
Using stern words against the welterweight, the tweet read, “This is for Colby Covington: Yea I have been to Diddy parties, maybe a few dozen times. That doesn’t mean they have anything on me. Unlike you, who foolishly went out for dinner in your enemies city and got jumped – I calculate every move I make. Also, I could help them put Diddy away for life, but I’m not a cop calling rat b—h like you. Keep my name out your mouth!”
It took little to no time for the tweet to go viral on the internet. However, there’s a twist in the tale.

The fact is, LeBron James hasn’t been active on X since November 21, 2024. So how did he write the tweet? Well, he never did. The post that is going viral on the internet does not have a date stamp, nor did it ever appear on his profile.
Hence, we can safely conclude that the NBA star never made such a statement, and it was just the internet community doing its thing by poking fun and spreading fake news. But what do you think? What would the Lakers star’s response be? Let us know in the comments.
