Angel Reese congratulates USA women’s basketball for winning Olympic gold — and implores fans to ‘leave me out of this’

Angel Reese doesn’t want to look ahead to the 2028 Olympics yet, when both the Sky rookie and Caitlin Clark — left off the Team USA roster for Paris — will again vie for spots on a roster that, after Sunday’s victory in the gold medal game, has won 61 consecutive games.

Instead, she wants to stay in the moment, celebrating the latest Olympic title won by the women’s national team after Team USA defeated France, 67-66, at Bercy Arena.

“Let’s just congratulate these women & let them enjoy this moment!” Reese wrote Sunday afternoon in a post on X, adding a halo emoji at the end. “Leave me out of this until my time comes!”

Reese’s post was in response to an ESPN story projecting an early version of what the Team USA roster could look like when the Summer Olympics resume in four years.

There was a chance that could happen this year, but it was always unlikely that Clark and Reese, as rookies, would crack an Olympic roster featuring established stars such as Breanna Stewart, A’ja Wilson, Dianna Taurasi and others.

Still, that doesn’t mean it won’t happen in the future, and when Reese joined the broadcast for an in-game interview during the All-Star Game, she hinted at the hope to play alongside Clark on the Team USA roster when the Olympics shift to Los Angeles in 2028.

“She’s been great to play with,” Reese said on the ABC broadcast. “The future, we’re gonna be playing with each other a lot. Hopefully in four years we can be Olympians together.”

Reese, the No. 7 overall pick in in this year’s WNBA draft, starred at LSU and helped expedite the growth of women’s basketball alongside other college players such as Clark and JuJu Watkins — transferring that momentum to the professional level, too.

And in the first half of her rookie season, Reese emerged as one of the top contenders to win the league’s Rookie of the Year award, stringing together 15 consecutive double-doubles — before that streak ended during a July 13 game against the Liberty — and averaging 13.5 points alongside 11.9 rebounds per game.

She made the All-Star Game, helped Team WNBA stun Team USA and then jetted overseas to Paris and London, even sitting courtside with Kevin Durant and Steph Curry during an Olympic showcase game for the women’s national team.
