Elon Musk, fresh from voicing his support for a far-right political party in Germany, claimed ‘very few companies’ will want to invest in the UK amid calls to set up a Tesla gigafactory in Scotland

Petty Elon Musk has ruled out a new Tesla plant in the UK with another dig at Keir Starmer.

The billionaire tech boss, who earlier this week threw his weight behind Germany’s far-right AfD party, claimed that “very few companies” will want to invest in the UK while Mr Starmer is PM. Musk is set to hold a key role in the Donald Trump administration when the Republican returns to the White House.

He is also rumoured to be lining up millions of pounds of donations to Nigel Farage’s Reform UK. Musk made the comment on Twitter /X in response to calls for him to open a new Tesla “gigafactory” in Scotland. Responding to calls from Ash Regan, a member of the Scottish Parliament, the businessman responded: “Very few companies will be willing to invest in the UK with the current administration.”

Ms Regan had written to Musk urging him to consider opening an electric car plant in Scotland. She said the move, which could create tens of thousands of jobs, would be a “gamechanger”. The businessman previously said Brexit made it “too risky to put a gigafactory in the UK”.

It will raise fresh concerns about hostility from the incoming Trump administration, which takes office in January. Musk’s response is the latest in a long line of spats with the UK Government. He previously whined about the treatment of far-right thugs sentenced during the summer riots, and claimed the country is headed for “civil war”.

In November he shared a post by far-right agitator Tommy Robinson and claimed Brits are fed up with Mr Starmer’s “tyrannical police state”. He also accused Labour of going “full Stalin” by closing tax loopholes exempting millionaire agricultural landowners from paying inheritance tax.

Earlier this week Musk penned a piece in German newspaper Welt am Sonntag newspaper voicing his support for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. The anti-immigration AfD, which has called for mass deportations, has been classified as a suspected extremism case by Germany’s domestic intelligence agency.
