Angel Reese is a star in her own right. However, many fans and so-called analysts fail to see past her physical appearance, making inappropriate comments at every opportunity. Tired of it, two-time WNBA champion Sydney Colson put a hard stop to it.
Her skill with the ball and her dominance of the backboard made Reese a force to be reckoned with in her rookie year in the WNBA. Although a wrist injury ended her season prematurely, the Chicago Sky forward set several records, including consecutive double-doubles and double-doubles for a rookie.
In addition to her talent, Reese’s physical beauty is undeniable. Her attractiveness has rendered her juicy sponsorships, and her undeniable presence has turned her arrival at Sky games into a catwalk. But there are those who mistake Reese’s sex appeal for permission to make raunchy comments.
Colson’s anger
In a comment on X (formerly Twitter), Sydney Colsonblasted the comments that influencer Charleston White made about Reese hours earlier on a podcast. “Having an ignorant *ss sexist on and then actually dropping the episode and then wanting to collab with the W is craaazy work lmao,” said the player, indignant.
In a recent episode of the podcast “Club 520” that he co-hosts with Jeff Teague, White said, “I’m with Shaq. Dunk in some panties with no bra on. That’s how you sell tickets. We need an OnlyFs WNBA-then I’ll tune in.”
The influencer referenced an unfortunate comment former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal made while appearing on Reese’s “Unapologetically Angel” podcast. The comments caused serious backlash for Shaq and the same is happening to White.
Fans are on a rampage against White
Netizens immediately rallied in support of the Las Vegas Aces guard. “I couldn’t even get through the whole clip. That’s disgusting,” one user said, followed by another saying, “I would never watch anything with CW on it but for them to sit there and laugh at what he’s saying…”
While it’s hard to expect White or Teague to apologize for the comments, it’s possible that the public’s perception of women’s sports and female athletes is starting to change for the better. At least there’s hope.
