After Sydney Sweeney’s box office sleeper hit, Anyone but You, with Glen Powell, it seems like the world of romance comedies is being resuscitated and given a second chance. While the storyline of the 2023 piece wasn’t all that new or exquisite to begin with, it still received the expected response because of the way it felt, thanks to the Hollywood hotshots’ iconic pairing onscreen.

But while the box office performance is one thing, the real win for Sweeney and Powell through their rom-com is the news that Jennifer Aniston just may soon be returning to the genre. And pairing up with her for the same just may be none other than her onscreen partner in The Morning Show, Jon Hamm, as the actor made his feelings about returning to the screens with her clear!

Jon Hamm Credits Anyone but You for Reviving the Rom-Com Genre

Over the years, the romance-comedy genre has seen quite a lot of additions, though not all of them managed to make the splash they were intended to. This changed with 2023’s Anyone but You, which featured Sweeney and Powell in an enemies-to-lovers relationship with each other onscreen, and ended up being a major hit – even greater than what was expected.

While this turned quite a lot of fans’ attention back to the genre as it unhesitantly made headlines thanks to Powell and Sweeney’s perfect pairing, one of the people further thankful for this piece being made is none other than Jon Hamm. To say the least, he is grateful to the Hollywood hotshots for making it feel like the genre could cause that stir once again.

During a recent interview with IndieWire, he voiced his thoughts regarding the same, saying:

I mean, God bless Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney for proving that it can work again. I’m glad to see that some of the [studios], streamers, and alternate folks are taking swings at the romantic comedy genre again because I feel like it is something that was overlooked for some time.

Needless to say, this is a win-win situation for Sweeney and Powell, both of whom worked tirelessly with their iconic rumor-grinding promotion technique for their movie. But it’s a win-win situation for fans as well, considering how Hamm has also voiced his interest in leading a feature rom-com sometime soon, with his The Morning Show co-star Jennifer Aniston right by his side!

Jon Hamm Has a Vague Idea of How He Wants His Rom-Com to be

Previously, Jennifer Aniston had expressed in an interview with THR how she was “trying to will a rom-com into existence” for the two after working with Hamm on The Morning Show. In his interview with IndieWire, Hamm echoed similar thoughts as he expressed that he and Aniston could just end up pulling off the perfect rom-com together.

Sharing his views on it, he said:

I have no idea what it would look like. I think it would just have to be funny and fun and it would let us do what we both do very well, which is be charming and funny and compelling. I certainly wouldn’t say no to that.

All of this being said, it seems like fans really need to give more credit to Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell for the immaculate work they did on their 2023 masterpiece. This is because not only did they manage to give hope for more romantic comedies to debut, but also elevated the chances of Hamm and Aniston starring in a project from the genre together!
