This year, Angel Reese finally got to live out her dream of playing professionally in the WNBA. Following an impressive first year in the pros, the Chicago Sky forward reflected on one of her struggles outside of basketball.
There is a massive pay gap between male and female professional basketball players.
Reese was a top-10 pick in the 2024 draft, and her salary for this season was just $73,439 (per Spotrac). In comparison, Donovan Clingan (the seventh pick of the 2024 NBA draft) is set to make $6.8 million (per Spotrac) in his rookie campaign.
While live on Instagram, Angel Reese reflected on her WNBA salary in regards to her bills. Her pay from the Sky isn’t even enough to cover the $8,000 rent she pays to live in Chicago.

“I just hope you know, the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all,” Reese said. “I don’t even think that pays one of my bills, honestly.
“I’m living beyond my means. My rent is more than that, it’s $8,000.”
Dating back to her time at LSU, Reese has been able to supplement her income due to her strong presence on social media. As a notable figure, she was able to secure countless NIL deals.
Angel Reese makes appearance at Victoria’s Secret fashion show
In the offseason, the star rookie has made appearances at several notable events, including the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. She turned heads by donning an all-red dress.
Angel Reese is enjoying some downtime before ramping back up to play competitively in the coming months. In the new year, she will make history as part of the initial members of the “Unrivaled” league.
Typically, WNBA players go overseas in the offseason due to their pay situation. To counter this, Stewart and Collier wanted to create something to help in-house players earn more.
Unrivaled plans to give out some of the highest average salaries in women’s sports and players will get equity in the league.
Coming off a rookie campaign where she broke numerous records, Reese was chosen to compete in Unrivaled. Other notable members include Kelsey Plum, Jackie Young and DiJonai Carrington.
Before getting shut down early because of a wrist injury, Reese averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds across 34 matchups.
