NFL fans had priceless reactions after social media detectives put forward some compelling evidence about Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray finally breaking the “Call of Duty” curse.
For those unfamiliar, Kyler Murray is an avid COD gamer. But there’s a notion that he’s a little too obsessed with the video game, which might explain why his stats take a noticeable drop whenever a new Call of Duty game is released.
You may recall that Murray had an “independent clause” added to the $230.5 million contract extension he signed in 2022. Fans speculated that it was the Cardinals’ way of getting him to play less COD, but the organization removed the clause after facing immense backlash.
But for those who enjoy poking fun at Kyler Murray and his obsession with the popular video game franchise, we have bad news for you. It looks like the 2019 first-overall pick has finally broken the curse, based on his performance this season:
@K1 Kyler Murray stats per game pre cod black ops 6 release

It doesn’t matter if you’re superstitious or not. The numbers and Murray’s record since the new COD game release don’t lie. Maybe Murray and the Cardinals really are different this year.
Kyler Murray Has Cardinals Sitting Atop NFC West
Sunday’s victory over Aaron Rodgers’ New York Jets propelled Arizona to 6-4 on the season, keeping them atop the NFC West standings. The Cardinals are half a game up on the 5-4 San Francisco 49ers, who defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday to keep pace with Jonathan Gannon’s group.
The 4-5 Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks aren’t quite out of the race, either. Arizona was known for unraveling in the second half during Kliff Kingsbury’s four years as head coach, but they have a golden opportunity to rewrite history over the final stretch of the regular season.
