San Antonio Spurs (DR) / Indiana Fever (DR)
Victor Wembanyama and Caitlin Clark followed a similar path when they arrived in their respective leagues.
But the collective results are clearly not the same, to the point of raising an interesting debate among Internet users.
As the WNBA season begins its playoffs, the NBA is preparing to begin training camp in a few weeks.
Basketball continues for a while across the Atlantic, with Caitlin Clark who will be very followed with the Fever for her postseason debut.
Victor Wembanyama hoped for a similar scenario with the Spurs, without success.
A surprise? Not really. Given San Antonio’s roster and the competition in the West, no one saw the Texan franchise in the playoffs in 2024.
For 2025, however, it remains a possibility with the additions of Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes.
Wemby will be a determining factor in getting there, he who hopes to weigh more often in the victories for the future.
Victor Wembanyama and Caitlin Clark compared again
For Clark, it’s something else since the Fever finds themselves with a 20-20 record.
This is more than enough to reach the playoffs in the WNBA, even if the StatMuse account wanted to compare the collective statistics.
We can see that Clark had a better impact… although the level is absolutely not the same.
On the X side, StatMuse therefore highlights that Wembanyama’s impact on the collective during his rookie season was not visible.
The Spurs went from 26.8% of victories in 2023 to 26.8% in 2024. No notable improvement, quite the opposite of Caitlin Clark with Indiana.
The Fever went from 32.5% to 50% just before starting the playoffs, a sign that the franchise has experienced a nice boost.
With Wembanyama, the Spurs have struggled to string together wins, which is partly due to a weakened roster and some experimentation from Gregg Popovich.
It’s another story for Caitlin Clark, not to mention the fact that the Fever can also count on a player like Kelsey Mitchell or Aliyah Boston, the first pick in the 2023 draft.
In short? It will take more than that to convince Internet users. The proof is in some reactions collected on X.
@tronnniel : “It shows how competitive the NBA is”
@kawhi_ring : “No matter how bad the team was, Spurs were winning in Wemby minutes for 3/4 of the season”
@erichthonius_ : “It’s hard to win when your team is tanking. »
@TheNBAStan : “Context matters.”
It’s hard to compare Caitlin Clark and Victor Wembanyama, especially when you see the difference between the NBA and the WNBA today. But we will remember that both players have shone, and this is only the beginning of their adventure.
