WNBA star Angel Reese issues plea after Donald Trump’s Caitlin Clark comments

WNBA star Angel Reese shared a message on social media ahead of the 2024 Presidential Election between Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

Chicago Sky ace Angel Reese vocally steering her supporters to the ballot boxes for the 2024 Presidential Election showdown between Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, who has now declared victory.

Reese turned to social media to share a volley of messages with her fans across the United States, imploring them to exercise their democratic rights in the election showdown.

The sporting world has witnessed a surge of athletes championing the call to vote, and LeBron James has not held back in backing Harris, laying out his reasons for supporting her candidacy.

Standing in stark opposition to James’ political stance is San Francisco 49ers’ Nick Bosa, who, fresh from victory against the Dallas Cowboys, interrupted his colleagues’ post-victory interview donning a stark white “Make America Great Again” hat, reinforcing his alignment with Trump’s camp.

Reese, without sporting a “MAGA” cap or divulging her voting preferences, nonetheless played her part in galvanising the electorate, with a straightforward plea on her X account on election eve: “please VOTE.”

Adding personal clout to the message, Reese uploaded a selfie to her Instagram story with the proclamation “I voted,” driving home the significance of casting one’s vote. To cap it off, Reese broadcast one final rallying cry on her X account: “GET UP and VOTE.”

Reese, who had previously steered clear of public political discourse, opened up about her voting intentions. In August, when quizzed on her electoral preferences, Reese opted for discretion, citing a lack of sufficient research to make an informed choice at that juncture.

“I haven’t been able to tap a lot into the political election… so, I’m not that educated right now, but [I] just continue to learn,” she shared with journalists. “Everybody go out there and vote. I commend that, and I just tell a lot of people to go out there and vote because we need it for this election.”

In a pre-election twist, Trump took to the ‘Let’s Go!’ podcast on Monday to express his admiration for Clark, the Indiana Fever’s standout player and praising her impact on the WNBA’s rising profile.

“Well, you’d like to do that, but it’s a very complicated thing, it’s very unusual,” Trump remarked regarding a potential salary boost for Clark.

“She’s incredible, by the way. I watch, too. I think she’s incredible. The shot, I watch this shot go in. It’s like, couldn’t she shoot that way in the NBA? Give her the ball. She’s unbelievable. It’s a phenomena. It’s something that is taking place, and it’s unusual.

“It’s incredible. It’s a phenomenal thing she’s got going, but very tricky. When you start getting involved with trying to recreate markets, it gets very, very tricky. The downside is greater than the upside, Jim.”

Connecticut Sun star DiJonai Carrington also took to her social media to express her election day jitters, posting: “my stomach been in knots all day,” and urging “everyone VOTE!”.

In a bold political move, the Seattle Storm announced their endorsement of a presidential candidate. In late October, they declared on their social media channels: “Seattle has endorsed Harris for president,” making them one of the rare sports teams to publicly back a candidate.
