EDF – After the thrashing against Germany, Vincent Collet castigates Wembanyama: “You can’t…

While first place in Group B was at stake, the French team suffered a real beating this Friday against Germany (71-85). After this slap, Vincent Collet notably made Victor Wembanyama face his responsibilities.

By winning this match, they knew that they would benefit from a table that was a priori more favorable for the rest of the Paris Olympic Games.

And yet, this clearly did not represent a sufficient source of motivation.

The Blues were in fact almost non-existent against Germany (71-85), this Friday, and should therefore face a tough team in the quarter-finals.

Until then, however, it is time to take stock, and it is intended to be inglorious.

Vincent Collet’s criticisms of Victor Wembanyama

After two sluggish victories against Brazil and Japan, the French team’s group stage ended on a rout.

A rare bright spot in this gloomy picture, Victor Wembanyama continues to cause debate regarding his use.

But rather than highlighting his 14 points and 12 rebounds, Vincent Collet pointed out a mistake that he, according to him, made too often against the Germans:

Vincent Collet: Victor stopped the ball too much.

Against this kind of aggression, you can’t play like that. You never find yourself in 1-on-1 because they double-team and there’s no space to get into.

It’s important to move the ball.

For the French coach, it is therefore the lack of ball movement that explains the difficulties displayed by his group in recent hours.

Author of 3 turnovers during the match, Wembanyama would therefore have his share of responsibility in this fiasco and will have to show another face in the days to come.

An analysis that many American observers do not share, however, preferring to put the blame on Collet:

The problem is that his attack does not highlight the best players on the field.

It wastes most of the 24 seconds with useless passes and hand-to-hands and ends with a moon shot from someone who should not be shooting.

The best scorer and rebounder of the French team against Germany, Victor Wembanyama nevertheless interrupted the rhythm of the tricolor attack too much in the eyes of Vincent Collet.

A speech that does not, however, have unanimous support on the networks.
