Considered by many to be the greatest French player of all time, Tony Parker knows that Victor Wembanyama wants to take this honorary title from him.

This would not seem to surprise him given his recent confession about him.

Having retired from the courts since 2019, he can now act as a mentor for the younger generation.

Tony Parker appears in any case as an example to follow on the courts for budding French basketball players.

After all, his track record accumulated in the NBA and with the national team has no equal in France.

A certain Victor Wembanyama nevertheless hopes to do even better than him.

Tony Parker’s lucid confession about Victor Wembanyama

Having arrived in the North American league last summer, Wembanyama has already made a strong impression there during his first season.

Voted Rookie of the Year, he intends to quickly fill his trophy cabinet with other titles, while having to face immense pressure.

Given his experience, could Parker help him manage this final piece of information? Not at all, as the latter told Yahoo Sports:

Tony Parker: Victor is an incredible player when it comes to the mental aspect. He has a good head. I have nothing to teach him on that level. He is ready.

The rest of his family is also incredible.

His sister and brother also went through the ASVEL academy and the education of all three of them is admirable.

Victor is not the type to let himself be disturbed by the pressure and expectations that weigh on him.

“In two years at the most, or even next year, Victor Wembanyama will be…

He is a bit like LeBron.

In any case, I think he is the only one to whom I can compare him because he too was surrounded by a lot of expectations before arriving in the NBA.

And when you see the way he played for his rookie season with the Spurs, Victor was incredible.

So I hope that will allow the Spurs to win many titles and French basketball to win many medals.

Given the portrait drawn by TP9, Wemby has all the qualities to achieve his lofty goals.

Only one aspect could prevent him from doing so according to the legendary French point guard:

Tony Parker: His physique? It’s really something.

And that’s perhaps the only concern I have about him.

Can he display such a level over time and stay healthy despite his 2m24? With this body, will he be able to play 15 or 20 seasons with the Spurs and join the national team every summer? We’ve never seen that, so that’s the only question mark.

But his talent is incredible, he is mentally ready and he has the opportunity to become one of the best players in history.

Although he is very seasoned, Tony Parker believes he has no advice to give to a Victor Wembanyama who is already forged for the highest level.

All he can do is hope that his former protégé at ASVEL will not be weighed down by his physique for the rest of his career.
