They therefore meet many women, which can lead to addiction in some.
A veteran recounted his experience after 15 seasons in the league.
Adapting to life in the NBA shouldn’t be easy for everyone. If young prospects are today paid as soon as they enter the NCAA, or even before for the best known among them, the veterans had to face a fairly abrupt transition.
Often broke at university, as Chris Paul explained, they found themselves millionaires overnight.
Some had the presence of mind to surround themselves with people to learn how to manage their finances, but others let themselves live without necessarily thinking about the consequences. Between the huge villas, the big cars and the luxury clothes, a fortune can quickly be liquidated if you’re not careful. Fortunately for stars, salaries are getting higher and higher and bankruptcy is very unlikely today.
In short, among the occupations of these nouveau riche there are often going to nightclubs and the seduction that goes with them.
And according to Jim Jackson, who spent 15 years in the league, it’s very easy to get lost in all the hustle and bustle.

People think that women wait for you at the hotel, but that has never happened to me in 15 years. Maybe it happened to the Lakers and the Bulls, not necessarily the others at that time. When I was playing, there were websites where women could see when a team was coming to town, the name of the hotel, and they would go and wait at the nightclubs. They did everything to trap players. They either wanted to blackmail them for money or catch them during the party.
But it’s also our fault.
What we look for in a woman as athletes opens the door to exploitation. I know players who ruined their careers because of women.
They became addicted and couldn’t live without it. They were too attached to the party and the girls. When you go out in the evening, people recognize you, so obviously you are a target.
The former Mavericks has already seen teammates get lost in this destructive, but addictive, environment.
NBA players love to party, and some become visibly addicted to parties once they get into the league. Lucid, Jim Jackson still explained that the athletes were not innocent in their setbacks.
