South Sudan was up 14 in the first half as they held Team USA to 1-for-11 shooting from three while creating nine first-half turnovers.

Two of the turnovers came from the starter Embiid, who was double-teamed in both instances.

One of the turnovers saw the Philadelphia 76ers star pass the ball behind his back out-of-bounds to no Team USA players in the vicinity.

During the third quarter, Embiid also missed a wide-open layup after receiving a pass from LeBron James but got the offensive rebound and made the second try.

Still, fans shared their disapproval of the 30-year-old, saying he shouldn’t start for Team USA moving forward.

“Watching Joel Embiid out there w/errbody else just reminds me how slow him and his game is,” one wrote.

“Team USA is bringing every corner of NBA Twitter together united around one idea: Joel Embiid can’t start for this team,” another commented.

“Joel Embiid is killing the US,” a third added.

While Embiid certainly had lowlights in the game, the 2022-23 MVP was still productive for the team.

He finished the game with 14 points (5-6 FG), seven rebounds, and three assists and was +16.
