Angel Reese has reached 20 double-doubles quicker than any WNBA player

Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark continue to battle for the WNBA Rookie of the Year Award – with both women breaking records on Sunday in their incredible individual first campaigns in the league

Angel Reese has become the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 20 double-doubles in a single season – breaking a record just hours after Caitlin Clark had also made history.

Although Reese’s Chicago Sky suffered defeat on Sunday evening, Reese put together another incredible solo performance with a whopping 20 rebounds and 19 assists having another double-double to her impressive rookie season. Reese leads all WNBA players in rebounds with 12.3, while also having the most double-doubles.
This had come just hours before Clark broke the rookie single-season record for assists – where she also leads all WNBA players in that category.
Clark already holds the record for assists in a single game with 19 as she set a new single-season mark for rookie assists with her third against the Seattle Storm on Sunday with 225 on the season.

Both rookies came into the league with high expectations after their dominance in college basketball, being rivals with LSU and Iowa, where they eliminated each other from the playoffs in back-to-back years, with Reese’s LSU defeating Clark’s Iowa in the National Championship game in 2022.

In those games, Reese celebrated in Clark’s face after defeating them in college before Clark exacted her revenge by eliminating her team from the postseason the following year – with the two continuing their rivalry in the WNBA.

Caitlin Clark dominated in a Fever win

The two have faced each other three times, all being physical games with the Clark’s Fever winning two of them. In one of the games, Clark was hard-fouled off-the-ball by Chennedy Carter – with Reese seen immediately applauding in a moment that many believes is proof of her disdain for Clark.

Both rookies were named to the All-Star teams after their solid start to the seasons, with Clark averaging 17.8 points per game, 8.3 assists and 5.8 rebounds. Meanwhile, Reese is averaging 13.6 points, 12.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists a game.

Clark remains the huge favorite to win the WNBA Rookie of the Year Award, despite South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley recently stating that she believes Reese to be more deserving of the award.

Both the Fever and Sky will likely be in a battle for the final playoff spots, with Clark’s Fever currently above the Sky – despite many believing the Sky to have a superior roster.
