The Chicago Sky are back to winning ways! A 90-86 win against hosts LA has clearly boosted their playoff chances. And who better to lead them than their superstar rookie Angel Reese? However, for the second time in a row, she finds it difficult to find peace as the basketball world thrashes her for the not-so-impressive stat line.
Tonight, Angel Reese grabbed her 19th double-double against the Los Angeles Sparks in a 90-86 win. Now, she will be going for Tina Charles’ all-time rookie double-double record for 22 such stat lines. In the road game, she dropped 14 points and 11 rebounds. However, one thing that has been coming to everyone’s notice is her field goal percentage.
The Sky rookie hit 4 shots from the field and missed 9 times. This brought her field goal efficiency to just 30% in the matchup. Even from the free throw line, she went for 6 of 8 shots. Contrastingly, her partner in the paint, Kamilla Cardoso, made 6 of 9 from the field. She grabbed 15 points and 14 rebounds with 66% efficiency.
Looking at the stark difference, the basketball world is not happy with how the Baltimore native has been performing so far.
Angel Reese’s return goes down the drain despite the win
In the first game after the Olympic break against the Phoenix Mercury, Angel Reese only made 4 of 14 shots from the field. She was also not good from the strip. She only made 3 of 8 free throws in the 85-65 home defeat. This fact made their loss forgettable. Tonight, although she did fetch 15 percent of the team’s points, knowing how she could have really made a difference for a bigger win is not sitting right with the loyal Chicago fans.
Resonating with the same, WNBA followers mentioned how her shooting splits are not exactly worth looking at. She is currently averaging 4 hits per 12 shots, making her field goal efficiency 39% only. She is also 20% from beyond the arc and 73% from the free-throw line. The fans were only more frustrated because she is usually making layups just 3-ft away from the field.
“The shoots split every game are horrible and it’s only shots that are close to the basket too”
Angel Reese just dropped ANOTHER double double.

“Great double-double, but the eye can’t stop going straight to her FG%. 4/13… 31%… “
Another fan was not exactly vibing with the X account. They suggested that they were simply setting Angel Reese up when they knew she wasn’t playing well. Surely, Reese’s numbers back at LSU were 47% from the field, and was also putting up 11% from beyond the arc. While the level of competition has definitely risen in the WNBA, the followers simply do not like what she is giving to the Chicago Sky right now.
“Setting her up again LMAO you can’t make this s*** up you know she shot the ball bad and ur saying “put some respect on her name”
Apart from the Chicago Sky loyalists, even Angel Reese’s fans are not on board with her performance. Talking about her field goal percentage, a Chi-Town Barbie follower hysterically mentioned how even they would have had a better split if they were in the league. While this may be extending the fact, they are clearly disappointed.
“Angel fan here… But I’m pretty sure I would have a higher fg percentage if I played in the W”
The facts are facts. And Kamilla Cardoso has certainly made her name despite the injury-laden opener. She has played 19 games with the Sky and has averaged 47% from the field. It is important to note that she is only playing 26 minutes per game while Reese is on the floor for 31.7 minutes on average. In the last two games as well, the Brazilian hooper had comparative numbers to Angel Reese despite playing fewer minutes.
“Cardosa put up 15 points and 14 rebounds in less minutes, she’s literally better than Angel Reese and doesn’t even play the same minutes”
While the fans can always switch sides, seems like this one is here to stay. Unless, of course, the former Lady Tiger improves her numbers. It will be interesting to see if Angel Reese will put her maximized 24 hours into the practices and bump her shooting splits up.
