LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony might’ve only played one season together with the Lakers, but their friendship is on another level! They’ve built such a tight bond over the years that it feels like they’ve been teammates forever.
And when the guys are close, it’s no surprise their families click, too. LeBron’s wife, Savannah, ended up forming a strong connection with La La Anthony, Melo’s ex-wife. It’s one of those real-deal friendships that sticks, even when life takes unexpected turns.
This past Wednesday, the Gaucho Gym in Mott Haven turned into a magical winter wonderland for Bronx County kids. It was such a treat for kids aged 8 to 16, who came from organizations like GIRLS INC, the NYC Police Athletic League, and the Young Women Christian Academy. The reason? La La Anthony’s annual charitable event.
The Winter Wonderland – she’s been hosting it every year. Savannah James, 38, attended La La’s annual charity event on Tuesday. The host posted a picture of the duo, writing, “@mrs_savannahrj pulled up yesterday!!! We had the best time with the kids 😍😍😍😍😍😍.” LeBron’s better half re-shared La La’s post on her Instagram stories, saying, “So fun supporting you!!! 🫶🏾😍😍😍”.
La La marked her eighth year hosting the Winter Wonderland program, and it was nothing short of magical. With help from her sponsors and friends, she turned the night into a dream for underprivileged kids in The Bronx. From mouthwatering dinners to exciting games and heartfelt gifts, the event brought joy to hundreds of young hearts. Kiyan showed up for the event, too, and as highlighted by his mum on Instagram, he gave away a free PlayStation! So, while La La has a set routine before Christmas, the James family does not!
Savannah James has practically sacrificed Christmas for LeBron
For families, Christmas is all about being home, making memories, and soaking in the holiday vibes. But for Vannah, it’s anything but traditional. Thanks to LeBron James’ packed NBA schedule, her holidays often involve hitting the road instead of getting cozy at home.
On Everybody’s Crazy, Savannah opened up about how she’s adjusted over the years. “[LeBron] has never not played on Christmas. It’s really here or there, somewhere,” she explained. “For, I would say, like 6 years in a row, we were here. So I would like, ship all the gifts to the hotel, have the hotel put up a Christmas tree. I had to create Christmas where we were because we weren’t [home].”
This year, while most people are unwrapping presents, Savannah will probably be in San Francisco. LeBron James’ Lakers are set to face Steph Curry and his Warriors side on Christmas Day, keeping their family holiday on the go. Even the King has admitted it’s tough to keep traditions alive. “I won’t be with my family on Christmas, unfortunately… They’re in L.A. right now,” he once shared.

But there’s hope for a traditional Christmas in the James household soon. At 39, LeBron is nearing the end of his iconic career, with only two years left on his contract. When retirement comes, maybe Savannah will finally get the homey holiday season she’s been dreaming of. Can you imagine LeBron, post-NBA, actually relaxing on Christmas morning? It’s a whole new vibe waiting to happen.
