“He might have to stop breaking records because we always lose on any time you break a record,” Anthony Davis said last season after LeBron James reached his 40k milestone. Well, that curse has been broken. It was another day and another history-making moment for the 39-year-old. Moreover, the cherry on the cake was that the Lakers had won the game fair and square by 113-100. However, his teammates still had some disrespectful reactions which LeBron coped with a $2.6 million franchise.
That’s the expected revenue of Madden NFL 25, a game LeBron and many NBA players are currently into. When asked in the post-game locker room interview about where he ranks in the video game, the 4-time champion confidently declared, “I don’t know who all plays, but I know I’m number 1 on this team. I’m number 1 on this team for sure.”
Upon inquiring if there was anyone close to being second, LeBron quickly denied it. For clarification, another reporter asked if he considered himself the No. 1 player in the league. LeBron responded, “That’s possible. I might be more number 1 in the league here.” He admitted he’s “nice” at the game, but in reality, he’s extremely skilled at Madden and ranks among the top 100 players in the world. Two months ago, he even revealed his rank on an Instagram story.
But why was LeBron suddenly bragging about his gaming skills? Well, he might not have if his teammates hadn’t made epic comments about his big record night.
The glorious night came on Thursday when the Lakers took on the Kings. Before heading into the game, LeBron was just 9 minutes behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s 57,446 minutes played in the regular season. And by the second quarter, he had already passed the NBA legend, solidifying his status as the league’s all-time leader in that category. After playing 34 minutes last night, the new record for most regular season minutes played now stands at 57,471.

In the same interview, LeBron was asked about the new feat. Making a blank face, he said, “Coach came here and congratulated me. My teammate said, f**k off.” And that wasn’t it, he was also called, “old as hell” which he confessed with a smile. That was certainly not meant disrespectfully. It was just friendly banter that even the 20-time All-Star seemed to enjoy.
There’s no denying that LeBron will turn 40 in a couple of weeks, yet he continues to stay in peak shape and put up insane numbers. Take his performance against the Kings, for example, 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists.
While his averages this season, 22.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and 9.0 assists, might not be as impressive as they were after his first season with the Cavs, they’re still better than many players nearly half his age. So, “age is just a number” perfectly applies to LeBron, who has yet to make and break multiple records in the league.
