The NFL’s week 18 action had many dramatic events. However, one particular event from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ season’s final play caught LeBron James’ attention. Despite his tight schedule with the LA Lakers, the NBA superstar never misses out on the exciting sporting events. In the same vein, the Buccaneers’ wide receiver, Mike Evans’ run for the moneybag, left James spellbound and compelled him to drop a message to the baller.
During the week 18 action, many players played for the big contract incentives and one was Mike Evans. The 31-year-old won $3 million for crossing 1000-yard receiving yardage in the final play when he collected the 9-yard catch to clinch the win over the New Orleans Saints. Following the dramatic catch, the star broke into celebration along with his teammates.
LeBron James, on the other hand, reshared the spectacular grab and celebration video on his X handle and wrote, “So damn… Super congrats my brother! Too TOUGH!!,” with plenty of fire emoji.

The moment Mike Evans crossed the 1000-yard receiving mark couldn’t have got a better script. Heading into the last game of the season, the Buccaneers’ playoff berth was on the line. On top of it, veteran Evan needed 85 more yards in receiving to cross the 1000-yard mark for the 11th consecutive season and get his hands on the prize money. Until then, Hall of Famer Jerry Rice was the only player to achieve the feat.
During the final stretch of the fourth quarter, the Buccaneers led the Saints by 8 and Evans had covered 80 yards. So, he needed only 5 more yards to complete his feat. With around 36 seconds left, the Tampa side forced a turnover. Ideally, it’s a safer option to run the clock out, but QB Baker Mayfield instead gave a short pass to Evans and helped him get the prize.
The Buccaneers’ dramatic finish could have moved anyone and LeBron James is no exception. Speaking of the moment, Mike Evans said, “It’s been hard to do for 11 straight years… It means a lot to me. Me and my family.” The veteran has to pull this off for one more season to surpass Jerry Rice. Looking at how things are panning out for the star, Evans would probably achieve that feat.
Moreover, Lakers superstar King James didn’t just enter the equation with his latest praise for Evans. Importantly, he has a diehard fan in Evans too. Recently, the cameras spotted the star donning the superstar’s high school basketball team’s jersey. Above all, Evans thought that Bron had become a great wide receiver.
During a 2017 podcast, the Buccaneers’ WR said, “LeBron James played receiver in high school, so I think he would be a dominant receiver because he’s so physical and so talented… Also, because he’s very smart. I think he has good hand and eye coordination, so I think he could really be one of the best receivers ever if he stayed healthy.”
It’s no surprise James had stayed healthy throughout his NBA career. So, James may become a sensational WR in an alternate reality. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
