Why Is LeBron James Not Playing vs Sacramento? JJ Redick Provides Clarity on 39YO Star’s Absence

“Most players go into a season wanting to play 82 games. So if that’s what he wants to do, great. I love it”. JJ Redick had reacted positively after LeBron James wished to play every game this season. A rare feat, especially for someone who’s almost 40. But if the ongoing season has told enthusiasts anything, it is that injuries can sideline anyone. The same has already caused the Laker to miss out on a few games and break his promise. Now, it seems that the vet may go on to record a couple of more absences under his name.

Earlier today, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported that LeBron James is set to be ‘OUT’ for the upcoming matchup against the Kings. The reason for the same has been cited as an unspecified illness the player is suffering from. Reports reveal that the ailment kept him away from the practice session that took place earlier, too. Jovan Buha highlighted that JJ Redick himself handed the update.

Furthermore, the head coach also revealed that he excused Rui Hachimura from practice because he was sick. This update already worsens the dire situation for Redick. After all, the Lakers Injury Report also contains the name of Anthony Davis (questionable). and D’Lo (probable). Meanwhile, Jaxson Hayes, who is listed as day-to-day, had participated in the non-contact portion of practice.

LeBron James had already missed two Lakers matchups earlier this month. He marked his absence in the games against the Portland Trail Blazers and the Minnesota Timberwolves because of the foot injury he was dealing with. Following this, LeBron later went on to develop a hamstring injury too. However, that did not prevent him from missing out on any additional games. The illness has, which has caused many to question the severity of it.

The 4x NBA Champion being ‘OUT’ means that his previous appearance, on Christmas Day against the Warriors, was the last game that he played in his 30s. After all, in less than 48 hours from now, LeBron James will be 40! Unfortunately, with the Lakers currently on a 17-13 win record, fans, and especially Redick, may not be looking to ponder over that personal fact. To cover for King James JJ and the Lakers’ front office will have to figure out a few things…

Along with providing the illness update, JJ Redick revealed that Gabe Vincent will be covering for LeBron James during the matchup against De’Aaron Fox and Co. Additionally, as highlighted by RotoWire, Dalton Knecht, and Cam Reddish could see an increase in their minutes as well. After all, when covering for a veteran like LeBron James, someone like Gabe Vincent may only not be enough.

Vincent has been consistent for the most part, having played in 30 of the games this season. But despite this, Gabe’s performance hasn’t contributed too much to the Lakers. After all, with an average playtime of 19.3 minutes, he has averaged only 4.4 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1 assist. He hasn’t been too impressive on the shooting front either.

After all, he’s only averaged 37.6% from the field, 33.3% from deep, and 50% from free throws. However, JJ Redick has often highlighted Vincent’s prominence on the defensive front. Therefore, the player might handle things better while guarding. This may allow others to take the scoring charge from him.

Do you think that the trio of Gabe Vincent, Cam Reddish, and Dalton Knecht will be enough to replace LeBron James, during the upcoming Sacramento Kings matchup? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
