Rubio is in his first season with the Florida Gators, and thousands of people online are not happy with him being on the team.
His name began trending after one X user pointed out that his father is Marco Rubio.
The post pointed out that Anthony Rubio, who is 5-foot-9 and 165 pounds and plays the running back position, is benefiting from nepotism and DEI.

Despite what the post stated, Anthony Rubio, a class of 2023 running back from Belen Jesuit Prep, racked up 1474 rushing yards in 229 games and scored 15 touchdowns.
For the 2024 season with the Gators, Rubio rushed the ball only six times for 32 yards and one touchdown.

Anthony Rubio just wants to play football, but his name is trending online due to who his father is.
Many believe he only got on the Florida Gators because of Marco Rubio.
In reality, Rubio only got major playing time during the final game of the year when they played in the Gasparilla Bowl.
The walk-on player for the Florida Gators scored his first touchdown in the school’s Gasparilla Bowl on Friday night.
Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio praised his son on social media.
“Happy my son scored,” the secretary of State nominee posted on X. “But what I am truly proud of is the joy from his teammates and that he gave all the glory to God.”
