Conservatives claim these clips show Kamala Harris is giving speeches while drunk

Conservatives and even a Donald Trump campaign official have claimed Kamala Harris appears drunk during speaking engagements.

There is no suggestion Harris has any sort of drink problem, although her VP pick Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota was arrested for drunk driving in 1995.

But pundits on the right are now suggesting booze is to blame for Harris’ ‘lunatic’ laughter and what many describe as ‘word salads’ from the vice president when she veers off script.

DailyMail.com has contacted reps for Harris for comment.

One commentator posted two clips of Harris, one introducing Joe Biden at a recent speech in Maryland, the other the vice president’s infamous re-telling of her mother’s ‘coconut tree’ story.

In it, Harris bursts into laughter after uttering the question ‘you think you just fell out of a coconut tree?’, while giving a speech on equality and advancement for Hispanic people.

Kamala Harris’ 2023 ‘coconut tree’ remarks go viral

She appeared to be trying to explain the need to focus on the wider community, adding that ‘nothing exists in a silo’.

After a clip of the speech went viral earlier this year, it became a popular internet meme that was widely circulated by her supporters, who are informally known as the ‘K-hive’.

Another clip was posted by multiple commentators Sunday, showing the vice president giving a speech in Pennsylvania where she repeats the word ‘democracy’ three times in thirty seconds.

‘And that’s what our election is about,’ she says in the clip. ‘Our election is about understanding the importance of this beautiful country of ours in terms of what we stand for around the globe as a democracy.’

She continues: ‘As a democracy, we know there’s a duality to the nature of democracy. On the one hand, incredible strength when it is intact. What it does for its people to protect and defend their rights, their liberty, and their freedom, incredibly strong and incredibly fragile.’

Harris: Strength of a leader ‘about who you lift up, not beat down’

Collin Rugg wrote: ‘Not a good look when everyone on X is calling you a drunk’.

Rob Smith added: ‘The ‘Kamala is a drunk’ theory makes more sense every second I think about it.’

Even James Blair, political director of the Trump 2024 campaign, suggested there were rumors about the vice president.

‘A lot of rumors out there about Kamala having a serious drinking problem…apparently coming into focus as campaign heats up,’ he wrote.

One Democrat wrote in reply: ‘You Republicans really have nothing against Kamala Harris do you?’

Others posted jokingly that if Harris were to be found out as a drunk, it would help her win key swing states in the Midwest.

DailyMail.com has also reached out to the Trump campaign for comment.

Biden was plagued with rumors about his failing health and mental acuity throughout his president, with his poor performance at a June debate against Donald Trump ultimately ending his re-election hopes.

Trump is no stranger to claims about his own health, with some onlookers suggesting the former president also displays signs of cognitive decline.

A buffet of word salads! A compilation of Kamala Harris’ gaffes

On Sunday, Harris plans a bus tour starting in Pittsburgh, with a stop in Rochester, a small town to the north.

The engagement came as Democrats prepare for their four-day national convention that kicks off Monday in Chicago and will mark the party’s welcoming of Harris as their nominee.

Her replacement of Biden less than four months before the November election has reinvigorated Democrats and their coalition. It has also presented a new challenge for Trump.

The vice president is scheduled to debate Trump in Philadelphia on September 10.
