Angel Reese’s recruitment pitch to bring to forward Gabby Williams back to the Chicago Sky fell flat.

Reese, who’s averaging a double-double in her rookie season with the Sky, took to X to see if Williams — who plays for Fenerbahce in Istanbul — would entertain the idea of returning to Chicago after she led Team France in scoring in the gold medal game against Team USA at the Paris Olympics on Sunday.

“Ok now that the game is over, would you like to be apart of the Chicago Sky again??? @gabbywilliams15 (thought it wouldn’t hurt to try lmaoo),” Reese, 22, wrote.

“orrrrrr we could just play together for a différent organization,” Williams, 27, replied.

Reese wrote back with, “sighhhh” and a teary-eyed smiling emoji.

“They did me dirty girl but i am still you’re biggest fan,” Williams replied.

Reese then wrote: “Them folks not here no more but ok ok i get it thank you sistergirl! see you soon!”

Sparks forward, Dearica Hamby — who’s suing the WNBA and her former Aces team for discrimination — chimed in and tried to recruit Williams to Los Angeles.

“I asked first gabby,” Hamby wrote, adding a mad face emoji and a crying-laughing emoji.

It makes things interesting because the WNBA trade deadline is Aug. 20.

Williams was a standout at UConn and won back to back national championships in 2015 and 2016 before she was the No. 4 overall pick by the Sky in the 2018 WNBA draft.

The 5-foot-11 forward played for the Sky until they traded her to the Sparks in 2021.

Williams, who also played overseas during her WNBA career, played in the league for the Seattle Storm as recently as 2023.

Williams explained she doesn’t play in the WNBA because it doesn’t pay enough for her to provide for her family.

“I would love to be in the WNBA because it’s the best league in the world for women’s basketball, the most competitive, the highest skill level, and it’s not even close,” Williams told The Next Hoops last July.

“Unfortunately, it doesn’t pay the most. So I am happy to have other options to provide for me and my family.”

Williams was one of France’s best players in the Paris Games.

She scored 19 points, shooting 40 percent from the field and 50 percent on 3-pointers in the gold medal game.

With France trailing by 3, Williams almost sent the gold medal game into overtime with a miraculous shot at the buzzer but she was inside the arc.

The U.S. women’s basketball team held off France, 67-66, to win an eighth straight gold medal at the Summer Games.

Williams was named the Best Defensive Player of the tournament.

While Williams felt she had to go overseas for financial reasons, the WNBA has enjoyed recent positive developments.

The league recently secured a $2.2 billion media rights deal with ABC, ESPN/Disney, NBC and Amazon — after implementing charter flights for all 12 teams.

The WNBA also announced two expansion teams in Golden State (the Valkyries) and Toronto, beginning in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
