New 3×3 off-season league promises financial and competitive benefits for players
In the latest buzz from the women’s basketball world, the much-anticipated launch of Unrivaledhas set the stage for an electrifying off-season league. Spearheaded byWNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, this league aims to revolutionize the game. Adding to the excitement, Angel Reesemade headlines by joining the up-and-coming 3×3 league, further cementing her status as a trailblazer in women’s basketball.
In an exclusive chat with Julia Poe of the Chicago Tribune, Angel Reese opened up about her decision to join Unrivaled. “Staying in Miami from January to March without heading overseas was a major draw,” Reese revealed. “I never planned on going overseas. Knowing two great players like Breanna and Napheesa are behind this, who wouldn’t want to be part of it? I knew they’d bring in more top talent.”
Reese also highlighted the benefits of staying local. “Many of us dread going overseas, but some have no choice,” she said. “Earning six figures here in just three months is a game-changer. Plus, 3×3 basketball is something I love. It’s a chance to hone individual skills because the game exposes everything.”
Announcing her new venture on July 24, the Chicago Sky rookie took to social media to share her excitement. “305 BARBIEEEEE SEE YALL IN THE YAMSSSSSSS,” she posted, amplifying the buzz around her participation in Unrivaled.
Unrivaled League set to elevate Women’s Basketball with top talent and competitive edge
The Unrivaled league promises significant benefits for WNBA players. Beyond the financial perks, which are expected to double the average WNBA salary, the league offers a fresh competitive edge. Players accustomed to the traditional 5×5 format will find the 3×3 games thrilling and challenging, pushing them to elevate their skills.
Scheduled to debut in January 2025, Unrivaled has already attracted top talent. Alongside Reese, the league features eleven basketball stars, including Chelsea Gray and Kahleah Copper. Paige Bueckers, a standout NCAA star, is also set to join after her college career, adding even more star power to the roster.
