Princess Kate and Prince William met at St Andrews University in 2001 and likely spent much time in the nearby seaside town of St Andrews during their four years of study.

The Scottish seaside town has been named one of the best in the UK following a study by Which?, involving nearly 5,000 Britons.

The town has an important part to play in Scottish history, with most recognising the name. Famously, the famous opening scene of the film ‘Chariots of Fire’ was filmed on St Andrews’ West Sands. The oldest airfield in the UK is also located there, and is still in use today.

If you’re planning to visit, St Andrews Castle is a popular tourist attraction in the area. The castle dates back to the 13th century and has an interesting history.

It was left without a resident or a purpose when bishops were abolished in 1592 and it then fell rapidly into ruin. In 1801, the Great Hall collapsed and most of it plunged into the sea. There were further losses until a sea wall was built in 1886. Today, the site has been turned into a place where visitors can learn about its history while taking in the views of the coat.

St Andrews University is an interesting place to look around in itself if you want to see where Princess Kate and Prince William studied. The university was Scotland’s first and today it remains one of the top in the UK. It is a competitive institution to study at, in the 2023-2024 academic year, it accepted a total of just 10,234 students.
