Angel Reese recorded her 20th double-double of the season with an iconic performance in the Chicago Sky’s 86-68 loss to the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday night. WNBA fans are divided following Reese’s performance, with some critical of how she gets her double-doubles.

The 22-year-old forward finished the game with 19 points and 20 rebounds, narrowly missing what could have been the 22nd 20/20 game in WNBA history. She went 8-for-16 from the field and 3-for-5 from the charity stripe.

It was a more efficient night for Reese, who was criticized in her previous game when she went 3-for-14 from the field.

Her shooting struggles, despite taking mostly close-range shots, have been the main talking point for her critics.

Despite an impressive performance on Sunday, WNBA fans were divided about their reactions to Reese’s 20th career double-double.

“She’s just a goddess in every way,” a fan wrote.

“In an 18-point L,” one fan replied.

“If she would shoot like that every night she would average 20 and 10. She just doesn’t. Good game tonight,” another fan commented.

Angel Reese might have the double-double record on her side in the Rookie of the Year race, but she’s behind in almost all important stats against Caitlin Clark.

“Yeah that -20 plus/minus is harsh,” a fan pointed out.

“She did her part and what she could tonight,” one fan remarked.

“One assist, nice team player,” another fan commented.

Angel Reese doesn’t care about the critics or the narratives surrounding her rise to stardom. Reese sent a message to her haters before the Chicago Sky’s loss to the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday night at the Footprint Center.

“Just continue to be unapologetically me. … There’s a lot of negativity, but you see all these people yelling my name. They still love me and the positivity, that gets me to wake up every day and still be me and still be positive.

Through the negativity, I know there’s a lot of positivity with that,” Reese said. [H/T Star Local Media]

Despite the negativity, Angel Reese is making history as a rookie. Reese’s 20th double-double of the season meant she was the fastest player in WNBA history to achieve the feat. The Sky have 13 games remaining in the regular season.
