The Masked Singer was plunged into disarray as a celebrity reportedly stormed off set following their elimination from the contest.

The hit ITV programme kicked off its latest series just last weekend, introducing a fresh batch of incognito stars in the initial episodes. Yet, during the forthcoming reveal, the ousted figure is said to have left the stage in a huff due to their unexpected departure.

These “dramatic scenes” are slated for broadcast on Saturday evening when Pufferfish, Bear, Toad in the Hole, Wolf and Bush take to the stage once more. The celebrity’s identity remains a secret but has been teased as a “world-renowned star”.

One insider dubbed the mishap “absolutely bonkers,” pointing out that typically the least popular contestant among votes promptly discloses their identity upon elimination. They then converse with the panel and give an encore performance minus the disguise.

However, the source divulged to the Sun: “But instead this character turned around and shuffled off stage, which was hilarious in their costume obviously – but we were all stunned. We knew something was going on because we saw lots of to-ing and fro-ing with crew before the person eventually came back on stage.”, reports the Mirror.

The informant noted that the episode’s unfolding events added even “even more” excitement to discovering the mystery performer’s true identity.

According to reports, the production team worked diligently behind the scenes to encourage a celebrity contestant to complete the show, while host Joel Dommett kept the live audience entertained. An insider revealed that the participant was “basically gutted” to exit the competition “so soon” into the new series.

The Masked Singer’s sixth series kicked off on Saturday last week, with six contenders showcasing their talents. The following night saw the remaining six take the stage, and by the close of the evening, two stars were unveiled.

Spag Bol’s reveal showed none other than Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway, who had belted out Geri Halliwell’s Look at Me.

Later in the same episode, Pegasus took off the mask to reveal Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith, who had delivered a performance of Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’ from the musical Oklahoma!

The panel has welcomed a fresh face this year, with Love Island presenter Maya Jama stepping in for singer-songwriter Rita Ora, a panelist since the show’s premiere in 2020.

Maya has joined longstanding judges Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, and Jonathan Ross for the latest instalment. The first and second episodes featured guest panelists Mo Farah, the former Olympic athlete, and actor Vicky McClure, respectively.

This coming Saturday’s episode is set to see actor Suranne Jones join as a guest panelist.
