Angel Reese breaks WNBA rebounding record just days after honoring the great Dennis Rodman by wearing his Pistons replica jersey

Angel Reese’s spectacular rookie campaign continued Sunday as she broke the WNBA record for most rebounds in a single season.

The Chicago Sky star snagged 19 rebounds in a loss to the Minnesota Lynx to bring her tally to 418 for the year. Her 405th board came in the second quarter and broke Sylvia Fowles’ 404 from 2018.

Fowles got drafted into the league in 2015. In her third year, she broke the record set by Jonquel Jones during her sophomore campaign the year before by one rebound.

Reese’s historic feat came two days after she honored one of the game’s most elite rebounders, Dennis Rodman, by wearing his Detroit Pistons jersey on Friday.

The former LSU star would snag 11 rebounds in her 27th straight game with double-digit boards in a loss to Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.

Like Reese, Rodman was a force on the boards during his illustrious NBA career. On top of two titles with the Pistons and three more with the Chicago Bulls, Rodman was a seven-time NBA rebounding champion.

He currently sits 23rd in the NBA’s All-time rebounds leaderboard with 11,954 boards.

Aside from her impressive rebounding, Reese has been packing the stat sheet in other departments.

Reese is averaging 13.2 points along with 12.9 rebounds per game. She also has 23 double-doubles this season, 15 of which came consecutively – another one of her rookie feats.

While Reese is doing well individually, the Sky is struggling, having lost six straight and seven of their last eight.

Chicago sits eighth in the league and fourth in the Eastern Conference with an 11-21 record and eight games remaining.
