Katy Perry has her fans wanting to puke after calling this thrilling horror the best thing ever, and the comments are relatable.

The Firework singer took to X today, (November 11) to praise a film which has turned stomachs as the ‘best film this year’, and fans could not disagree more.

Those who have given this a movie review probably wouldn’t call it the best thing, but they certainly had some other choice words.

If you’ve yet to see it, be warned- it’s a crazy ride.

The new film only hit cinemas on September 20, and it has a beautiful cast.

Hollywood veteran Demi Moore stars as the main character, and you’ll also see Dennis Quaid and Maid actress Margaret Qualley making their mark on the horror genre.

Honestly, if you don’t know what this film is, I’m shocked and a little disappointed, as so many people have been raving about The Substance.

One of those people is Perry, who tweeted: “The Substance – best film this year.”

For those who don’t know, it’s a story of beauty and sacrifice (the PG version).

In the flick, Moore stars as a ‘fading celebrity decides to use a black-market drug, a cell-replicating substance that temporarily creates a younger, better version of herself’.

The Substance is Coralie Fargeat’s second film, after making her directorial debut in 2017’s Revenge.

Now, it all depends how you look at the film; it could be comedy, horror, or even drama.

But it’s got people wishing they never saw it.

In response to Perry, fans were quick to disagree with her review.

One person wrote: “No thanks. I don’t like looking at 63 yr old naked bodies. Kept me up for a week.”

Someone else said: “Thanks for telling me what not to watch.”

Another replied that they ‘wanted to gag’ while watching it.

However, other people on social media loved it.

One person said: “The Substance is *the* hardcore film of 2024. A furious dose of body horror that slowly eats away at duplicitous beauty standards until blood flows, guts spill, and only disfigured body parts remain.

“Utterly grotesque existentialism driven by a definitive Demi Moore performance.”

Another wrote: “THE SUBSTANCE is a B-movie mixed with The Fly and painted with Barbie’s candy coat. Don’t take it too seriously and let it rip your brain out. Career sh*t from Demi Moore. Gonzo third act that declares exactly what it is. Had a ball, wanted to gag.”

Positive reviews have been coming in hot, and it’s no surprise, as it has a 87 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer.

A particularly great topic covered in The Substance is Hollywood’s beauty standards of women, which shows just how damaging they can be.

Speaking on this, director Fargeat told BBC News: “It’s about what women look like, and how everything that is projected on them, from a young age, shapes their state of mind.”

She added: “From the self-hatred and feeling that they’re never good enough, beautiful enough, thin enough, young enough.

“At each age, there is something that can make you feel like you’re not right.”
