The year 2024 was a big one for many athletes, including Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson. By looking at the numbers, Wilson’s game seems to have improved in comparison to her first five years playing in the WNBA. After all, it was the first time that she averaged a double-double in her career, with 26.9 points and 11.9 rebounds per game.

After her stellar performances, Wilson was named only the WNBA’s second unanimous MVP.

On Wednesday, Sports Illustrated named her as its WNBA Player of the Year for 2024.

While this is a huge honor for Wilson, there were some fans who did not agree with the pick. In fact, some shared whom they thought should’ve won.

“This is so unfair we cant single out one player it harbors feelings why not Caitlin or Angel or the whole league,” one person said.

“(Napheesa Collier) was robbed,” one fan tweeted.

“I would take Caitlin on my team over A’ja every single time,” another person chimed in.

Meanwhile, other fans just wanted to point out reasons why Wilson was not deserving of this award.

“You are insane. In no world was Aja Wilson the most outstanding basketball player in 2024,” one person said.

“Is this a joke? She did not even win the championship this year,” one person tweeted.

“What a bunch of Bulls***,” one person said.

This season A’ja Wilson increased her points per game average to 26.9 from 22.8 last season. She also averaged 11.9 rebounds per game which is the first time in her WNBA career that she averaged double-figure boards.

She also did work on defense, averaging 1.8 steals and 2.6 blocks per game.

A’ja Wilson signing six-year extension with Nike

A’ja Wilson’s latest award comes on the heels of her signing a massive six-year extension with Nike. It is reportedly one of the richest shoe deals for a women’s basketball player.

Wilson is coming off a historic WNBA season. Aside from being named just the second unanimous MVP, she was also named to the All-WNBA and All-Defensive first teams.

Wilson also became the first WNBA player to reach the 1,000-point mark in a single season and set the single-season rebounds record with 451.

She played a massive role in leading the Las Vegas Aces to the semifinals of this year’s playoffs. However, they lost to the New York Liberty, who would go on to be crowned the champions.

A’ja Wilson’s accomplishments were not limited to the WNBA, as she played for Team USA in the Paris Olympics. Wilson led the team in both points (18.7), rebounds (10.2) and blocks (2.7).

In the gold medal game against France, which the US won 67-66, Wilson scored 21 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and rejected four shots.
