Caitlin Clark helped the WNBA reach a new level this season in terms of audience, with the added bonus of a certain rivalry with Angel Reese on the networks.
The Sky player just made a surprising statement.
It’s clear that the WNBA has gained a lot of traction this season, thanks in part to the contribution of Caitlin Clark.
Great players have existed in the league for years, including A’ja Wilson and Diana Taurasi, but it’s safe to say that Clark was the one who was able to change things on her end.
Since her arrival, everything has changed across the Atlantic.
Increased audiences, regularly surpassing NBA games, increased ticket prices and so on: new fans have arrived in recent months to follow the exploits of Clark and the Fever.
She is not the only one responsible, of course, but the facts are there. And this is the case even if some refuse to acknowledge it.
Caitlin Clark Snubbed Again
This was seen again this week with a Wall Street Journal article about the WNBA’s recent success across the country.
Angel Reese is on the cover, partly because she was interviewed, but it’s worth noting that Clark is barely mentioned in the article.
You have to wait about twenty paragraphs to start seeing her name.
A rather surprising statement that illustrates well the hatred and jealousy of some against Clark. As if the rookie could not be the new face of the league.
But we will remember from this article a new statement from Reese on the player, who hopes to one day become teammates with her.
Angel Reese : “The most important game for me? Probably winning the championship in high school. It changed my life.
To see 9.9 million people watching, from the hand gesture to Caitlin, to the win, everything that happened, it changed women’s basketball forever.”
“My life completely changed after that. Me and Caitlin have been competing against each other since we were kids.
My hand gesture? It’s okay to trash talk for men, so it’s important to normalize it for women as well.
We’re both great competitors, we’ve brought a lot of fans to this league, so hopefully one day we can be teammates.”
A rather surprising exit considering that Reese has often criticized Clark in the past.
Her hand gesture and her provocations in high school are still fresh in the minds of many, as are her statements during her rookie season .
It is highly doubtful that Clark really wants such a scenario after all these stories, but anything is possible in the WNBA.
Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese teammates one day? The Sky player is not closing the door after so many adventures with her counterpart. But after all these stories and certain statements, not sure that a return to the past is possible.
